House Republicans Propose Ban on Federal Funding for Surveillance Camera Systems
Reps. Thomas Massie and Eric Burlison introduced the Flock-Off Act to eliminate federal financial support for real-time surveillance technology. The legislation targets automated license plate readers and facial recognition systems used by federal and local agencies. Massie argued that taxpayers should not fund a surveillance state through these high-tech tracking tools. If passed, the bill would require the removal of existing surveillance systems that were previously purchased with federal grants. This measure aims to restrict the government's ability to automatically track vehicles or individuals using biometric and location data. The proposal currently remains in committee for further review.
