Harry Reid Immigration Stabilization Act

The bill cuts off nearly all federal financial and social insurance benefits for people who are not lawful permanent residents or refugees, allows faster deportation without a full hearing for those convicted of an expanded list of aggravated felonies, and mandates states verify immigration status through the SAVE system before granting aid. It also increases criminal penalties for reentry from 15 to 20 years for the most serious cases and bars people from challenging their deportation orders in criminal proceedings.

“no direct Federal financial benefit or social insurance benefit may be paid, conferred, or otherwise given, on or after the date of enactment of this Act, to any alien not lawfully admitted to the United States as a permanent resident or a refugee”
