This bill starts a national program to educate doctors and patients about the risks and benefits of human tissue transplants. It focuses on making sure people have the right information before they undergo these medical procedures.
The government would be able to fine companies that break safety laws. Fines could reach $20,000 for each violation plus the cost of the products. The total fine could be as high as $10 million to stop companies from taking risks with patient health.
The FDA would have to share more information with the public about the companies that handle these tissues. This includes showing how many companies are registered and how often the government checks them to make sure they are following safety rules.
