Reintroduced
Reintroduced from S. 288 (118th), which died when its Congress ended.
The bill aims to drastically reduce tuberculosis around the world by the year 2030. It sets a goal to cut the number of new cases by 80 percent and the number of deaths by 90 percent compared to 2015 levels.
The U.S. would provide money and tools to help other countries find and treat people with tuberculosis, especially children and those with HIV. This includes using new technology to find cases faster and making sure medicine is affordable.
A major part of the plan focuses on research for new vaccines and better tests. It also encourages using digital health tools like video calls to help patients finish their treatment without having to travel long distances.
The government must track progress every year and report back to Congress. These reports will show how many people were treated, how much money was spent, and if the programs are actually working to stop the spread of the disease.
The plan also focuses on drug-resistant forms of the disease that are harder to cure. It aims to make sure that 90 percent of people with these tough cases are found and started on the right medicine quickly.
