Reintroduced from S. 4169 (118th), which died when its Congress ended.
This bill creates a grant program to build or grow primary care team education centers. These centers will serve as training sites for the next generation of doctors, nurses, and other health workers in local communities.
The plan aims to fix the shortage of teachers and mentors in the medical field. It allows centers to use grant money to pay salaries for mentors and create better ways to hire and keep clinical staff who train students.
Students training at these centers could get help with housing and transportation costs. The program also focuses on student well-being and mental health during their clinical rotations to prevent burnout.
The bill prioritizes training people from disadvantaged backgrounds and filling jobs in areas that do not have enough healthcare workers. It also brings in school nurses and community health workers to be part of the care team.
The bill proposes spending 10 million dollars in 2027, growing to 50 million dollars by 2029. Individual centers can receive up to 1 million dollars per year for five years to run these programs.
