If you live in certain northern Wisconsin counties, this bill would let you choose to watch a network station from another nearby Wisconsin TV market.
Cable and satellite companies would have to offer: your current local network station, an in-state nearby-market station, or both—if you ask for it.
If you pick only the in-state nearby-market station, the company can treat that as meeting its normal “local station” requirement for that network.
For cable companies, the bill makes it easier to carry these in-state stations by waiving a key permission step for these specific counties.
For satellite companies, the extra in-state station would be required only when it’s technically possible, as decided by the federal communications regulator.
