Key Points

The Department of Homeland Security would have to build a public website where people can search for family members held by immigration officials. The site would include the person's name, where they are being held, and contact information for that facility.
Information about a person must be added to the system within 8 hours of them being taken into custody. If a person is moved to a new jail or location, the website must be updated within 8 hours to show exactly where they went and how they were transported.
If a person in custody is sent to a hospital or clinic for medical care, officials must notify their family or lawyer within 5 hours. This notice must explain why they need medical help and provide the address of the medical facility.
To protect privacy, the system will not show any information about children under the age of 18. For adults, the information will stay on the website for at least 60 days after they are released or sent back to their home country.
Government workers who fail to keep the system updated could face punishments like losing pay or being suspended from their jobs. The government would also be allowed to end contracts with private prison companies that do not provide accurate information.
