Trump administration fast-tracks asylum cases by bypassing initial interviews
An interim final rule issued Monday allows U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services to refer asylum applications directly to immigration judges. This policy removes the requirement for an initial interview to reduce the current case backlog. USCIS officials said the move will prevent the asylum system from being exploited for work authorization. The administration is also accelerating mass hearings to process cases at record rates.
