This bill creates a new federal tax credit for businesses that buy electric lawn, garden, and landscaping tools. The credit covers 40% of the cost of the equipment, helping companies switch from gas-powered tools to cleaner electric versions.
Eligible equipment includes electric mowers, leaf blowers, and trimmers powered by batteries, solar, or plug-in electricity. It also covers the cost of extra batteries, specialized charging generators, and kits used to turn old gas tools into zero-emission ones.
There are limits on how much a business can claim. A company can get back up to $25,000 in a single year and no more than $100,000 over a 10-year period. This ensures the credit helps many small businesses rather than just a few large corporations.
The goal is to reduce air pollution and noise in neighborhoods. Gas-powered lawn equipment often lacks the pollution controls found in cars, making them a significant source of local smog and greenhouse gas emissions.
If passed, the credit would apply to equipment bought after December 31, 2024. The program is designed to last for five years before it would need to be renewed by Congress.
