This bill directs U.S. trade officials to create a special working group with Mexico and Canada to focus specifically on the travel and tourism industry. The group would include experts from several government agencies, including Homeland Security, Labor, and Transportation.
The goal is to help the tourism industry grow by making travel between the three countries more efficient. In 2024, travel and tourism supported about 15 million American jobs and brought in over $214 billion from international visitors, making it a top export for the U.S. economy.
The working group would meet at least once a year to discuss ways to attract more visitors to North America and increase tourism exports. They would also be required to listen to advice from people who actually work in the travel and tourism business to understand current challenges.
By coordinating with Mexico and Canada, the U.S. aims to protect its trade surplus in tourism and ensure that North America remains a top destination for global travelers. This coordination would happen during the next scheduled review of the major trade agreement between the three nations.
