Reintroduced
Reintroduced from S. 3037 (118th), which died when its Congress ended.
This bill allows preschool and early childhood teachers to deduct the cost of classroom supplies from their taxes. Currently, only K-12 teachers are eligible for this federal tax break.
Teachers who work in pre-kindergarten programs would be able to lower their taxable income by up to $300 for money they spend on books, supplies, and other classroom materials.
The goal is to support educators who often spend their own money to provide learning tools for young children. It treats early childhood teachers the same as elementary and high school teachers.
If passed, the new tax rules would start for the 2026 tax year. This means teachers would see the benefit when they file their taxes in early 2027.
