Congress would let intelligence community employees and new hires treat certain job-required moving costs more favorably on their taxes.
If an intelligence worker is reassigned and must relocate, some moving expenses could be tax-deductible, and some employer reimbursements could be excluded from taxable income.
The goal is to reduce surprise tax bills when people move for mission needs, making it easier for agencies to shift staff quickly.
This change would not apply to Armed Forces service members, who already have separate rules for moving expenses.
The tax change would start for tax years beginning after the law is enacted.
