Congress would allow the Smithsonian American Women’s History Museum to be built inside the protected National Mall reserve area.
If the Smithsonian picks a site controlled by another federal agency, that agency must be notified and then transfer the site to the Smithsonian after Congress is informed.
The museum’s planning council would be told to seek input from a wide mix of sources, including different political viewpoints and women’s lived experiences.
The Smithsonian would have to send Congress a report within 120 days after the bill becomes law, and then every 2 years, explaining how it is meeting those exhibit and input rules.
For most people, this mainly affects what gets built on the National Mall and how the museum decides what stories to tell in exhibits and programs.
